ANTI-PRECIOUS
PLAY

Core Studio II | RISD | Spring 2024
Instructor: Gabriel Feld

This public center for play and spirituality advances the exploration of earth, wood, and fiber construction. The resulting building encourages both unrestrained play and thoughtful reflection. The architecture is not precious - it is meant to be touched, climbed on, and experienced fully.

Three wooden towers define the project, each housing one of three key aspects of the program: play, spirituality, and home. Between the towers, rammed earth retaining walls carve out the larger portions of the program: a gymnasium and an ampitheater. The gym and ampitheater are protected by form-active canopies. Circulation flows through a heterogeneous central core made from rammed earth and wood frame.
