PATH

Core Studio II | RISD | Spring 2024
Instructor: Gabriel Feld

An earthen path weaves gently to the foot of the tower.
Rammed earth walls line the path, swapping sides with every switchback. Two restrooms sink into the hillside, dissolving the boundary between wall and earth.

A contemplation space along the way echoes the language of the woven canopy, and offers a resting place constructed with elements of fiber, wood and earth.

As the path approaches the tower, the earthen retaining wall defines the edge of the tower’s underground entrance. When entering the tower, the earth briefly becomes an occupiable space, before visitors rise above the site. After an experience of feeling fully rooted in the earth, they sense their new distance from the land.
